DAY BY DAY PROGRAM
Michael Jarrell Portrait
Friday, June 11, 08:30pm / Ircam, Espace de projection
Michael Jarrell, Switzerland’s most important advocate of contemporary music, is today one of the music world’s most pertinent figures. In order to enable the public to gain a more precise idea of the evolution of his musical thought, it seemed crucial to propose a monographic concert.
For this occasion his music will be performed by some of Europe’s top musicians from Vienna’s Klangforum and Stuttgart’s Neue Vocalsolisten and conducted by Emilio Pomarico. The works presented, chosen jointly by Ircam and the Aeon discography label, present a 20-year panorama of the musical productions of this composer, now in international demand.
His works, often composed according to a concept of rhizomatic arborescence, are often based on a subtle compromise between the freedom of writer, the pleasure of the performer and the inventive appreciation of the listener.
- Music for a While, for ensemble
- Formes-Fragments IIb, for four voices, instrumental ensemble and electronics
- Essaims-Cribles, for bass clarinet and ensemble
- ...car le pensé et l’être sont une même chose..., for six singers
